The Solent Enterprise Zone at Daedalus (DSEZ) has been developed by a partnership between Fareham Borough Council, Gosport Borough Council, Hampshire County Council, Homes England and the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership.
Previously, the location was a military airfield and training base dating back to WW1, with Solent Airport and businesses from the aerospace and aviation sectors continuing that tradition today.
Steeped in history and building for the future, the DSEZ is within the planning authority areas of Fareham and Gosport and the councils have agreed a whole-site plan to ensure the comprehensive development of the location for businesses and new homes.
With direct access to a marine slipway and Solent Airport located at its heart, sea and air connectivity adds to its road links for employees, customers, raw materials and finished products. As a result the DSEZ is now a destination of choice for engineering, manufacturing and technology businesses; especially those within the marine, aerospace and aviation sectors.
There has been a huge amount of public sector investment at Daedalus both from local authorities and partners, resulting in on-site and off-site infrastructure improvements including new roads, business parks, education and innovation facilities, and a new all-weather runway at Solent Airport.
Fareham Innovation Centre opened in May 2015 providing both office and small workshop units. The Centre has been hugely successful and an extension that more than doubled its size was opened in April 2018 with £7m investment by Fareham Borough Council including £2m grant support from Solent LEP.
