ExxonMobil Fawley is the UK’s largest integrated petrochemical complex, producing a range of energy products, lubricants and chemicals vital to everyday lives.
Since 1951, the Fawley site – the size of 1,425 football pitches – has been an integral part of the local community with 99% of its 2,500 employees living within 30 minutes of the site.
ExxonMobil Fawley imports crude oil from countries all around the globe to Fawley Marine Terminal, which handles 2,000 shipping movements each year and is the longest privately owned jetty in Europe at 1.5km long. This oil is then converted into petrol, diesel and jet fuel, which is distributed via a 700 km pipeline network to distribution terminals and airports. It is also turned into lubricants that are exported worldwide and chemicals that form the basis of more than 8,000 products.
The site is located by key transport routes, just 30 minutes from Southampton and less than two hours from London by road. Close access to the Solent with Southampton, Hamble, Portsmouth and Cowes, Isle of Wight reachable by boat in less than 20 minutes.
ExxonMobil is leading the Solent Cluster Project, aiming to capture up to 10 million tonnes of CO2 per year – 40% of all industrial CO₂ ever captured has been successfully captured by ExxonMobil, equivalent to the annual emissions of over 25 million cars.

ExxonMobil Fawley is also investing to strengthen Britain’s energy security by constructing a new low-sulphur diesel facility at the Fawley refinery. The facility will help to meet Britain’s energy needs today and build the foundations for lower-carbon fuels in the future with addition of a new hydrogen plant.
Increasing low-sulphur diesel production at Fawley by 40% should reduce imports into Britain by a quarter while helping to meet demand from sectors including heavy transport, emergency response, agriculture and industry.
The investment is supporting more than 400 construction roles and over a hundred suppliers and is helping to secure existing skilled jobs at Fawley. It is anticipated that full production capacity will be on line in 2025.
